Enter Split View
Split View requires OS X El Capitan or later, and the steps differ slightly based on which macOS you're using. If these steps don't work, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Mission Control, and make sure that “Displays have separate Spaces” is selected.
macOS Catalina
- Hover your pointer over the full-screen button in the upper-left corner of a window. Or click and hold the button.

Work in Split View
In Split View, you can use both apps side by side, without the distraction of other apps.

- Swap window positions by dragging a window to the other side.
- Adjust window width by dragging the vertical line between the windows.
- Switch to other apps or your desktop with Mission Control, or use a Multi-Touch gesture such as swiping left or right with four fingers on your trackpad.
Exit Split View
- Move the pointer to the top of the screen to reveal the window buttons.
- Click the full-screen button in either window. That window exits Split View.
- The other window switches to full-screen view. You can switch to the full-screen window with Mission Control, or use a Multi-Touch gesture such as swiping left or right with four fingers on your trackpad.
I recently discovered that you can pin apps side by side in fullscreen mode using macOS. I often use fullscreen mode and finding this little feature gave me a little smile though I did wonder why I hadn't discovered it earlier.

As you will know to open fullscreen mode you simply click on the fullscreen mode button which is the green or right button of the three buttons located top left of any window you have open. Mac app store. To pin the app and create a space for a second app just click on the green/right button and hold it until you see 2 separately shaded areas like this
The area that is shaded blue is the area where the window will appear in fullscreen mode. Just drag it to the other side if you want it there and then let go of the window and it will snap into place.
You will now see one app in fullscreen mode and in the other window any other applications you have open. Simply click on one and that will immediately snap into place in fullscreen mode too

Once that is done you will now have 2 applications side by side in fullscreen mode allowing you to work with fewer distractions. Macos self control apps.
